M3 still not working with Win 7 - 2010/01/22 22:03 I downloaded all the files from the 914 Whitbox robotics site. I have windows 7 installed. I installed the Phibget. I ran the M3 drivers and it successfully installs. But in Phibget, no devices are shown. The USB cable is plugged in. The power is plugged into the M3 controller and the red light next to the usb port on the M3 controller is lit. If I unplug the USB from the M3 controller, windows make a tone, recognizing unplugging and plugging it in.

Help. What devices should show up in the device manager is M3 drivers are correctly installed? What else should I need to do? I can't seem to get the M3 controller to talk. Any help will be greatly appreciated as I need to get this robot back up and working. Thanks,

Ted

Re:M3 still not working with Win 7 - 2010/01/27 02:05 I re-installed win XP. I still can't get M3 to work. Phibget doesn't show any devices under the general tab. Should it? Under device manager it have 914 PC-Bot M3 showing. Is there some setting missing that won't let me control the M3?

Thanks,

Ted

Re:M3 still not working with Win 7 - 2010/01/27 19:13 Are you trying to get a Phidgets board working or are you trying to get an M3 working? They are two completely different things.

Re:M3 still not working with Win 7 or XP - 2010/01/27 20:59 I think the answer is both. With XP, I have the M3 drivers installed and they show up in Device Manager. Phibget is running, but in the opening panel where it lists the devices, there are no devices showing. Should there be?

I can start the brian app and then the brian gui. They connect to the phibget app.
but I can't get the controls to work. In brian I can't get him to move. So I'm not sure what I need to do next. any help will be greatly appreciated.

There was a .net sample that I tried in desperation. It would show the sensors working and the voice came on when I shut it down. "don't forget to charge my batteries", but I'm don't have the time to figure out what I have and how to make a program out of it. I just want to get it back up and running as before with brian.

Thanks,

Ted

Re:M3 still not working with Win 7 or XP - 2010/01/27 22:17 It seems that when I start Brian.exe there is a problem. It states "there is a problem reading the configuration file ..." From brianl.exe, is there a config file location that is needed and is the phibget20.dll the config file? I tried putting brianconfig into the same folder as brian.exe, but I didn't know if it was the config for brian or briangui. Again, Thanks for any help you can offer.

Re:M3 still not working with Win 7 or XP - 2010/01/28 19:38 The Phidgets dll is not the config file. That dll is for the phidgets board.

The config file stores sensor calibration values and that sort of thing. It dosent really matter if there is a config file or not. Not having a config will not stop your robot from working.

If memory serves Brian does actually autodetect the M3 Im pretty sure you will be told verbally whether the M3 is connected or not. The fact that you can read sensors tells me that the M3 must be connected.

You can t drive the robot, but the sensors are detected. Try:

1 - Check the battery voltage, the computer and motors will die at about 9v. Make sure it is around 12v.

2 -Make sure your motors are actually plugged in. There are small connectors on the M3 that the motors plug into. Your robot wont go anywhere unless the motors are plugged into the right place.

That phidgets board is a separate entity to the M3. Ive seen a version of Brian's source code and see that it is supposed to be able to control a Phidgets 888 board. Ive never tried uysing Brian to control a phidgets board though.
