MS Robotics Studio Redevelopment - 2007/09/14 09:30 This thread discusses the Content article: MS Robotics Studio Redevelopment

My last submit didn't work - hope it doesn't show double:

I would suggest battery monitoring - voltage; Ah remaining, etc. - even if it requires install of a phidget. Similarly - environmental monitoring - temp, humidity, etc; and cpu core temp/fan speed.

Also, IR device support - like for the device Richard sent schematics for - so you can control tv etc natively from the app.

Just some ideas,

thanks.

Re:MS Robotics Studio Redevelopment - 2007/09/14 16:25 I think that the Phidgets boards already have their MSRS services / support. There's a download here at least:

http://www.phidgets.com/downloads.php?os_id=1

... I suppose that's the advantage of using a common platform - lots of other hardware will already have support so you can just use it.

Re:MS Robotics Studio Redevelopment - 2007/09/14 17:06 From what I can tell an awful lot of the hardware interfaces to allow this will already have been done for us from different vendors.
Also in the same way as UltraHal, MSRS can remotely control other programs too.

Re:MS Robotics Studio Redevelopment - 2007/09/14 17:21 RoboRealm already has full integration with MSRS too, so you can use it's vision capabilities in your MSRS applications:

It's kind of exciting actually - that once the 914 MSRS services are ready it will be great to integrate all these other things together with the 914.

Re:MS Robotics Studio Redevelopment - 2007/09/14 18:27 I think that were going to find that because MSRS has Microsoft backing eventually everybody is going to end up using it whether they want to or not. I get the impression that it is starting to establish itself quite nicely.

On the positive side there appear to be great advancements being made in robot vision. I remember being wowed the last time I went to University of Plymouth by a vision project one of the students was doing. She'd programmed a computer to recognise and interpret sign language she was doing with her hands. It seems that that sort of technology is fast becoming common place.

If you're into vision it might be worth looking at this discriminating tracking video, which is based on MSRS.

At the moment Robotics in general feels like its moving so fast that if you blink for a second you'll miss loads.
