Mac Mini with Intel Core Duo ... anyone? - 2007/03/29 19:03 Just an idea for PC-BOT brain transplant ... Mac Mini. Seriously, why not?

Intel Duo CPU, Windows and Mac OSX, should fit nicely inside the bay, and the price is comparable to Intel Duo mini-ITX solutions. I would be interested in hearing any comments, especially if somebody has experience with running Windows on dual boot Mac, or is thinking of switching from VIA to Mac

Re:Mac Mini with Intel Core Duo ... anyone? - 2007/03/29 20:14 Sounds like not a bad idea at all...

The Mac-mini runs from 12v so no problems there - other than you'll have to tinker with the M2-ATX PSUs - (if you keep them) - by default one powers the M3 and won't power up unless there's a PC attached to the other but this can be hacked.

I also heard a rumor that Player/Stage will run on Mac OSX as it's Unix based, so you could have a dual boot Windows / Unix Bot with all options of robot software on it (of course you could dual boot a PC to Windows / Linux too).

Re:Mac Mini with Intel Core Duo ... anyone? - 2007/03/29 20:57 According to the bottom of this page it's pretty power friendly too:

Re:Mac Mini with Intel Core Duo ... anyone? - 2007/03/30 00:20 I think it's a great idea. Tom and I chatted about this as an option 6 months ago, it's got some great features, and a fantastic stable multi-tasking OS for robotic applications.

You could also choose your OS - you could run Mac OS X, or still run Windows XP / Vista, but leveraging the great hardware platform.

Re:Mac Mini with Intel Core Duo ... anyone? - 2007/03/30 01:12 On a related note, it has an internal SuperDrive (DVD/CD) and an internal speaker, so this should also simplify, and lighten the load on the 'bot.

Re:Mac Mini with Intel Core Duo ... anyone? - 2007/03/30 04:04 Right, when you factor in the SuperDrive, and HDD, and WiFi, all already built in, it is easier on one's pocket and on robot's batteries than other solutions.

The power supply schema, as James mentioned, would have to be modified.
